Expressions: Empowering Newcomer Youth Through Art

Posted on

We are proud to offer programs that empower newcomer kids and youth. One such activity is an art-based program for newcomer elementary school-age kids called Expressions! Guided by an artist facilitator, participants are led through a variety of themes and mediums to explore their unique experiences as newcomers to Canada.

This year, the program used several artistic mediums including painting, drawing, collage, and 3D construction to explore topics like “My World, My Home”, Wheels of Emotions” And “Around the World with One Suitcase”. Exploring themes including migration, cultural shifts, and self-identity provide opportunities for kids to connect and create together, receive invaluable support in their settlement journey, and build a sense of belonging to their new community.
