Celebrating National Volunteer Week and Our Volunteer Champions

Posted on

This week we are celebrating National Volunteer Week, an opportunity to highlight the valuable contribution of Impact North Shore’s volunteers and their positive impact on the community.

National Volunteer Week’s theme for this year is Volunteers Make Waves, celebrating that each individual volunteer contribution creates momentum in their communities and has the power to influence and inspire, creating a wave of positive change. This is certainly true for Impact North Shore volunteers, who go above and beyond to support newcomers in our community!

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, Impact North Shore is delighted to celebrate the outstanding contributions of our volunteers who have been recognized through a variety of awards this past year.

Impact North Shore’s Excellence in Volunteering Awards

Impact North Shore recognizes outstanding individuals who have gone above in their contributions to the organization and the broader community.

Excellence in Service Award – 2024

Taraneh Najvan received the Excellence in Service award for her contributions across the organization, from our Settlement to Youth programs, and most notably the Language Centre and supporting the Intake team. Taraneh’s positive and attentive attitude, dependable nature and flexibility to support where needed were highly valued by staff and reflect her outstanding commitment to volunteerism and Impact North Shore’s core values.

Excellence in Community Award – 2024

Hamid Dadras was the recipient of the Excellence in Community award for his involvement in the Digital Literacy program, playing a significant role in shaping the program to what it is today. Hamid demonstrated leadership, dedication and commitment to support the community to build capacity in the online, virtual space. He has also actively engaged in many community-focused initiatives, including job fairs, networking events, and the North Shore Immigrant Inclusion Partnership (NSIIP’s) Forum.   .

Community Volunteer Spirit Awards

Ping Zhang has recently been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Community Volunteer Spirit Award hosted by North Shore Community Resources to celebrate local volunteers who make valuable contributions to community organizations. Ping regularly volunteers as a Conversation Leader with our English learning program, Seniors Learning Circles, which offers specialized support for immigrant seniors to practice and gain confidence speaking English. Ping’s patient, helpful, and happy demeanour provides students with encouragement and tailored support to reach their English-learning goals.

A Big Thank You to All Impact North Shore Volunteers

We extend our appreciation to all our volunteers, who share their time, skills, empathy, and creativity to contribute to supporting newcomers in our community. Thank you!
