Becoming a Community that C.A.R.E.S: 5 Ways to Build #UnityinCommunity

We have a unique opportunity to deepen community and belonging for all through caring.

Together we can honour the unique stories that have shaped the lives and experiences of our neighbours and create a community that C.A.R.E.S.

Prioritizing inclusion and equity in our daily lives and working toward a shared sense of belonging, togetherness, and community, helps increase unity on the North Shore. We invite you to embrace the ideas and explore the actions outlined in the C.A.R.E.S model.

Here are 5 ways you can build #UnityinCommunity

 

C – Connect & Reflect

Sharing our own stories and learning from others broadens our perspectives and creates space to understand the diverse journeys of our neighbours and friends.

By hosting and participating in inclusive spaces for connection and reflection, we can share our diverse experiences and build a vibrant community that thrives on mutual learning and growth.

A- Appreciate our Histories

Everyone has a unique story to tell. Our backgrounds shape how we show up and who we are.

Participating in inclusive spaces for learning about diverse cultures and histories aides in fostering deep understanding and meaningful cross-cultural connection.

  • Your own family tree
  • Indigenous history and colonization
  • Historical figures and events that have taken place on the North Shore and throughout your communities
  • Events that create opportunities for cross-cultural learning and discovery

R – Reject Racism

To C.A.R.E. is to actively be anti-racist. when we stand together against racism, we create safer communities, homes, and workplaces.

Actively rejecting racism by being an active witness promotes allyship building more equitable communities.

E – Embrace Reconciliation  

Fostering meaningful relationships and honouring the Indigenous Peoples who have called this land home since time immemorial is a central part of building #UnityInCommunity.  

Taking steps toward Reconciliation in our daily lives through individual and collective learning creates inclusion, increases our knowledge, and expands our worldview to better care for the world around us.

By sharing moments of unity and togetherness, we celebrate and highlight joy as we create a community that truly C.A.R.E.S.
