At Impact North Shore, we believe that building inclusive, welcoming communities is a collective effort. Partnerships are at the heart of our work, allowing us to connect, learn, and create meaningful opportunities for im/migrants. This year, the North Shore Immigrant Inclusion Partnership (NSIIP) has made a significant impact, hosting several key initiatives that have fostered collaboration and community resilience.
Board and Committee Diversity Training
Between November and December 2024, we hosted a six-week Board and Committee Diversity Training at the North Vancouver City Library. This initiative, part of our Civic Engagement strategic priority, was designed to support im/migrants with governance knowledge, helping them take on leadership roles in boards and advisory committees.
- 15 participants gained practical governance skills.
- All graduates expressed motivation to pursue leadership positions.
- Most attendees are actively seeking board and committee roles.
By equipping im/migrants with the tools to engage in decision-making spaces, we are working towards a future where diverse voices shape our communities.
North Shore Service Providers’ Forum 2025
On January 17, 2025, we hosted the North Shore Service Providers’ Forum at the West Vancouver Community Centre, themed “Embracing Change: Building Our Collective Strength for Im/migrant Inclusion.” This forum brought together North Shore service providers to explore ways to support im/migrants through collaboration and shared knowledge.
- 60+ representatives from 25+ service providers participated.
- 92% found the event very informative and 75% left ready to take action.
- 100% of attendees had meaningful networking conversations.
Through dialogue and shared insights, we strengthened partnerships, ensuring that im/migrants receive the support they need to thrive.
2025 North Shore Health and Wellbeing Fair
On February 1, 2025, we welcomed over 200 visitors to the North Shore Health and Wellbeing Fair at the West Vancouver Community Centre. This event connected im/migrants, seniors, youth, and families with essential health and wellbeing resources.
- 22 non-profit organizations participated.
- 100% of attendees found the event valuable.
- 85% of exhibitors expressed interest in returning next year.
- BC Cancer provided on-site assessments and self-screening kits, promoting early detection and prevention.
By fostering connections between service providers and community members, we helped ensure that im/migrants can access the resources they need for a healthier future.
Anti-Racism Training: Enhancing Cultural Competence
On March 13, 2025, NSIIP hosted an interactive Anti-Racism Training designed for staff at all levels of service provider organizations across Canada. This session aimed to enhance cultural competency in the workplace and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable work environment that drives meaningful change.
Over 100 participants learned about the importance of inclusive language in the workplace, explored how to identify and recognize cultural biases, and discussed strategies for effective communication in diverse teams.
This training aligns with our commitment to promoting equity and inclusion, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to build stronger, more culturally aware communities.
The Key Takeaway: Collaboration is Essential
These initiatives highlight the power of working together. Through partnerships, we strengthen belonging, create opportunities, and build a community where im/migrants feel welcomed and valued. At Impact North Shore, we remain committed to fostering collaboration, ensuring that inclusion and equity continue to be at the forefront of our work.
